The website "Gallery" section has now been updated with a selection of photos including the 50th Anniversary Brummit Mixed Tournament, and the clubs 60th Anniversary celebrations, both of which took place during 2007.

Wednesday 2nd January, 2008

This weekend, the 5th and 6th January, the first team will be competing in Div2N of the England Indoor National League, having successfully progressed through the East qualifiers with a final victory over Chelmsford.

The action takes place at Cocks Moors Woods Leisure Centre, Kings Heath, Birmingham, where City will face opposition from Bowden, University of Birmingham, City of York, Yeovil & Sherborne, and Leek. This will be a tough opening campaign for the side, and realistically retaining National Indoor League status will be the first priority.

Any supporters who fancy making the trip to Birmingham will be very welcome.

Elsewhere in the club there are friendly fixtures for the 4th team away at Stevenage, and the Vets team against Saffron Walden.

Friday 30th November - First team begin indoors campaign

With the enforced National League mid-season break, the first team will be competing at indoors for the first time in a number of years. In order to qualify for a place in the Indoor National League they need to progress through the EAST qualification schedule, which commences this Saturday and Sunday at Kelsey Kerridge Sports Centre, Cambridge.

Peterborough are one of 10 sides entering the competition, which involves two groups of 5, playing each other in matches of 15 minutes each way. The group winners will then meet in the final to be played at 6pm on Sunday. Based purely on outdoor form (a dangerous assumption remembering Peterboroughs inexperience in the indoor game), City could make it through to meet National league Div1 side Chelmsford. However, based on past seasons form the tournament favourites may be indoor specialists Witham, who Peterborough face in their opening game - potentially a stern test.

Peterboroughs full match schedule is:

Saturday 1st December:

12.40 v Witham

15.20 v Stevenage

Sunday 2nd December

11.20 v Harpenden

14.40 v St Ives

Friday 10th October - First team away at Barford Tigers.

This Sunday the first team will travel to Birmingham where they will meet Barford Tigers in their latest Slazenger National League fixture. Whilst Peterborough sit second in the table, Barford surprisingly are currently in bottom place. Last season Barford were league runners up, missing out on promotion to Division 1 in the inter league play-offs. They have yet to hit last seasons form, but there is nothing so dangerous as a sleeping tiger, so Peterborough will travel prepared for another tough encounter.

The vets team have a first round fixture in the over 40's cup competition when they travel to St Neots. The team have had a number of good cup runs in recent years and will hope to make at least the last 16 dependant on the right draw, and playing to their potential.

Home Slazenger EHL fixtures Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th October

City of Peterborough continue their run of home games with a tough couple of fixtures against Formby on Saturday (1.30pm start) and Leek on Sunday (2pm start).

Formby's present 9th place league position disguises the fact that they have been competetive in 3 close fought opening games, including a 4 - 4 draw against Stourport. Last season honours were shared between the two clubs, each side winning 3 - 1 away from home, so Peterborough can expect a highly competetive match.

On Sunday league leaders Leek visit Bretton Gate, having already secured two wins and a draw, including a very creditable 5 - 2 opening day victory over highly rated Barford Tigers. Peterborough just edged two close games between the sides last season with a win and a draw.

As always your support for both fixtures would be very much appreciated.

Following last Sunday's win over Long Sutton, Peterborough have been drawn away against premier division side Bowden in the third round of the HA cup. The fixture is due to be played on the 21st October.

Home Slazenger EHL fixtures Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd September

Following a sound away victory on the opening day of the season, the first team have two home games this weekend against Sheffield Hallam (Saturday) and Nottingham Sikh Union (Sunday). Whilst Peterborough beat league newcomers Kingston-Upon-Hull, Sheffield were losing 2-0 to the other promoted side Telford and Wrekin, enjoying much of the play but failing to convert any of the 22 short corners they were awarded. Sikh union picked up maximum points on the opening day, albeit as a result of a forfeited game by Harrogate.

Peterborough have improved availability for this weekend, and will be keen to continue in winning ways. Push back both days is at 1.30 pm. The first team have been drawn away against local rivals Long Sutton in the 2nd Round of the EH Cup, to be played on Sunday 30th September. Long Sutton, with their player / coach former Peterborough captain Gary Hales, overcame Luton 4 - 2 in the opening round.

The Veterans side commence their league programme this weekend with an away fixture against Pelicans (Kings Lynn).

Slazenger EHL Div2N Fixtures commence this Sunday

This Sunday, the 16th September, City of Peterborough first team commence their Slazenger EHL Div2 campaign with an away fixture against newly promoted Kingston-Upon-Hull. Kingston lost only a single fixture in gaining promotion from the Northern league, and Peterborough will expect the usual determined opposition that stems from the momentum that promoted sides carry with them. Peterborough will be looking to build on their creditable 6th place finish following their own return to the National League last season.

The first team completed their pre-season build up with fixtures against Staines and Ipswich last weekend. Following a highly disrupted preperation to the Staines match an ill-prepared side slumped to a 6-2 defeat which definitely represented the low point in what has otherwise been an encouraging pre-season from a much changed side. However following a team-bonding Saturday night the side showed their true form with a 3-2 win over National League Div2S side Ipswich, and must now look forward to the Kingston-Upon-Hull game with anticipation.

The clubs lower sides suffered from a number of fixture cancellations with only the 4ths, 5ths and 6's able to compete friendlies against local opposition Market Deeping. The 4ths slumped to a disappointing 6-2 reverse to Deeping 1's, but the 5ths ran out 3-0 winners against Deeping 2's and the 6's 8-0 winners against Deeping 3's to make amends. Highlights here were goals from youngsters Aaron Nicholls and Tom Wadsworth, with a brace for Aaron, and a hat-trick for Tom, on his debut for the 6's following a successful season for last years 7's.

Club Pre-Season fixtures Saturday 8th September

Following a continued encouraging league build up for the first team, with a 1 - 1 draw with Blueharts, and 6 - 2 win over Sutton Coldfield, their final league build up continues this weekend with away fixtures against Harleston Magpies and Ipswich.

Lower club sides from 2nds through to 8ths swing into action this weekend with fixtures against Cambs City, Saffron Walden, Market Deeping, and Spalding.

First Team Pre - Season 2007 / 2008

Following a 7-0 friendly victory over Long Sutton last week, the first team squad continue their pre-season this Sunday (1st September) with matches against Blueharts and Sutton Coldfield. Both games are in the morning at Bretton Gate, with the Blueharts fixture commencing at 9.30 am.

15th March 2007

This weekend sees a number of key matches for teams throughout the club. On Sunday the first team travel to Sikh Union, hoping to arrest a recent dip in form. Sikh Union sit only 2 points below City, so a loss for Peterborough would see a further slip down the table.

The 2nd team, now in a promotion spot on goal difference, travel to mid table Witham. The 3rds still have promotion aspirations being only 2 points off a promotion spot as they entertain mid table Norwich City 2's. The 4ths have a tough game against 3rd placed Cambs Nomads 2's, looking to secure points to cement a top 4 position. The 5ths travel to Horncastle for a crucial relegation battle. The 7's are away, at March 5ths, with a good chance of promotion, only 2 points behind second and with a game in hand. The Vets have a very tough match, away at Ipswich, which sees 1st playing 2nd. The two teams drew one all in the reverse fixture.

9th February 2007

This Sunday the first team play away against Sheffield University Bankers (weather permitting). The Sheffield side sit 2nd in the table, but the firsts will be looking forward to testing how far they have progressed since the home encounter, won by Sheffield in the final minute. In that game Peterborough realised they have nothing to fear from any side in this league, and have been on an upward curve ever since.

At Bretton Gate on Sunday the Vets over 40 side compete against Harleston Magpies for a place in the quarter finals of the National Vets Cup (2pm pushback). Peterborough went out at this stage last year, only losing on flicks away to a very strong Isca side. With additions to the squad this year, and a home tie, hopes are high of progressing. However Harleston represent stern opposition, having traditionally faired well in the cup including quarter finalists in the 2004/05 season, and with a number of their former National League side within their ranks. All supporters will be most welcome.

2nd February 2007

The first team host Lichfield in a Slazenger National League Div2N fixture at Bretton Gate this Sunday (2pm pushback). Lichfield currently sit in the relegation play-off zone, so a battling no-holds barred encounter can be expected. In the away fixture Lichfield led 3-2 with only 5 minutes remaining before two Gareth Andrew penalty flicks snatched victory for Peterborough from the jaws of defeat. All supporters for Peterboroughs first home fixture since the Christmas break will be very welcome.

26th January 2007

This Sunday, the 28th January, the first team are due to resume their Slazenger National League Div2N campaign away against Harrogate. City of Peterborough currently sit in 5th place in the table, one place and one point above Harrogate, and the sides shared the spoils in the home fixture finishing up 2 - 2. The match is set to pit the leagues top two goalscorers head to head, with Gareth Andrew pitting his skills against Harrogates drag flick specialist Rohan Thomas.

25th January 2007

The clubs over 40's side have received a home draw against Harleston Magpies, when they will be competing for a place in the Quarter Finals of the National Veterans Cup. The fixture is due to be played at Bretton Gate on Sunday 11th February.

8th January 2007

This Sunday (14th January) the Vets team host Broxbourne, competing for a place in the last 16 of the National Veterans Cup. The Peterborough side went out at the last 16 stage of this competetion last year, on penalty flicks, to Isca, but have high hopes of progressing even further this year. However, they will face stern opposition from Broxbourne, who have been convincing winners in their first and second round matches. The game starts 2pm at Bretton Gate, all supporters are very welcome.

17th November

Congratulations to 4th team captain Chris "Wiggy" Samuel, and wife Helen on the birth of their first child, a daughter, Emily.

17th November

This Sunday the 1st XI, currently placed 8th in Slazenger National League Div2N, have another key fixture against Sheffield Hallam, who sit one point and one place below them in 9th. A win for City, combined with other results going their way, could see the side moving up into the top half of the table. Supporters at the pitch and in the bar are very welcome.

3rd November

A selection of interesting fixtures are in store for this weekend. The first team have a double header away to Barford Tigers on Saturday, followed by a home match v Nottingham at 2pm on Sunday. Barford are riding high in the table with 4 wins from their 5 games, Nottingham have only picked up a single point so far, but with Peterborough player coach Kalbir Takher playing against his former club, a highly competetive match could well be in store.

The 2nds, 3rds and 4ths are all putting together decent sets of results, and all face local derbies this weekend. The 2nds are away to an out of form Spalding side and will hope for maximum points. Both the 3rds and 4ths sit within 3 points of a promotion position, and face March 1's and Market Deeping 1's respectively. The vets continue to excell in the East league, currently sitting in 2nd place, and will hope to pick up maximum points on their long trip to Colchester, who have picked up a single point thus far.

29th October 2006

The annual Ged Watts mixed 7's tournament was hosted at Bretton Gate yesterday. Local side Beavers ran out eventual winners, beating Bedford University 3-2 in the final, having overcome Off Ciders 3-1 in their semifinal. The other losing semi finalists were St Neots.

Congratulations to first team player Alex Boxall who was part of the EAST U17 team that won the Regional tournament at Manchester over the weekend.

20th October 2006

An improving City of Peterborough first team will face a tough test tomorrow when they face top of the table Sheffield University Bankers (1pm pushback). Sheffield have won all four of their opening matches, and boast the best defensive record in the league. Peterborough remain unbeaten at home, and have started to find the goalscoring touch. All supporters will be most welcome by the pitch and in the bar afterwards.

16th October 2006

A great weekend for City, with 7 wins, one draw and only one defeat (and that in the final seconds), on only the second weekend when we fielded 9 mens teams. The first team picked up their first Slazenger National League win of the season, and now have a highly respectable 5 points from their opening 4 matches. Alex Boxall sits second in the leagues goal scoring charts, and top of the category for open play "field" goals.

11th October 2006

The 1st, 2nd and 3rd teams will all hope to pick up maximum points this weekend as their respective opponents Lichfield, Norwich Union 1's and Norwich Union 2's are all yet to get off the mark this season. The Veterans have an early return fixture against Bishops Stortford, having prevailed in the HA Vets cup game on Sunday, although the line-ups for both sides is likely to be slightly changed for Saturdays league encounter.

3rd October 2006

The first team, short of three key players, suffered a disappointing 6-3 loss at Doncaster on Saturday, despite a hatrick from England U16 international Alex Boxall.

The veterans side currently lead the club goal scoring charts, and will hope to combine cup and league success, when they entertain Bishop Stortford at Bretton Gate on Sunday (12.00 pushback), in the first round of the EH Veterans Cup. This will be followed by the First Team Slazenger National League game against Harrogate.

So a feast of fast, frenetic yet quality hockey is in store on Sunday, followed by the young pretenders. Come down, enjoy the bar facilities, your support for both games would be very welcome.

Full results, league tables and upcoming fixture information can be found for all sides by following the "Teams" link.

29 September 2006

The 1st team are playing their opening away game of the Slazenger England Hockey League against Doncaster this Saturday, and are hoping to build on the home 2-2 draw, secured against Leek with a late Matt Sutterby equaliser. Doncaster opened their campaign last week with an away win against Lichfield.

County hockey at Bretton Gate on Sunday - Boys U14 County Championship Round 1, matches start at 11:30 am, City players Aaron Dawson and James Fisher included in the Cambs side.
